The 30-seat restaurant, which focuses on healthy fare, is located across from the Scarsdale train station.
Chef Constantine Kalandranis, who owns 8 North Broadway in Nyack and 273 Kitchen in Harrison, said PopoJito will offer fresh, Mediterranean-inspired dishes using locally-sourced proteins, seasonal vegetables, and classic flavor elements like smooth tahini and brightness citrus.
The twist with PopoJito comes in the form of Mexican-inspired dish structuring, using freshly made corn-based tacos and tortillas to encase an array of grilled, cured or roasted proteins, along with chunks of lemony vegetable salads.
The name PopoJito merges the Greek (Popo) and Spanish (Jito) words meaning “Wow” and beautiful. The restaurant will offer a tequila bar along with wine and beer. Hours will be initially 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week; lunch service will eventually be offered.
Given PopoJito’s close proximity to the train station, Kalandranis aims to offer commuters piping hot food delivered directly to the train platform or other destination with online order placement.
The restaurant is at 46 Christie Place, 914- 713-8946, www.PopoJito.com.
